Reverse osmosis

What is reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is a water filtration process. The device that performs reverse osmosis has semi-permeable membranes. These membranes separate two solutions of different concentrations. In fact, the device forces the passage of water particles from the more concentrated solution to the less concentrated solution. It is in fact the process of osmosis… but in reverse!

In the treatment of drinking water, reverse osmosis is mainly used to filter out dissolved matter in the water such as salt, nitrates and certain organic matter.

However, reverse osmosis cannot disinfect water because microorganisms can sneak through the semi-permeable membranes under certain conditions.

The reverse osmosis device has a particularity. It is usually installed at a particular point of use in the home, such as the kitchen faucet.

However, it is possible to use the device to treat the water of the whole house. There are several things to consider before installing it. For example, we must take into account the flow rate of the well, the place where the water will be discharged and all the physico-chemical parameters of your water.

We will also have to :

  • Replace the filter cartridges once a year.
  • Replace the membrane every 2 to 4 years, as needed.
